This movie deals intensively with our Christian roots in Europe. The strength of this documentary is its sensibility that leads straight into the present state of planet earth. After ‘Awake’ and ‘The gift’ you’ll find the European speakers here. It’s unique so far!
The ASSUMPTION …
… the JOURNEY
Filmmaker Markus Werner sets off on a journey with his campervan. It will be a pilgrimage – leading him into no man’s land on the search for answers – a search for alternatives.
His way leads him through Europe. The further he is away from his home country the deeper he dives into an inner process. “Where has the man gone who I knew so well – the man who was so productive in society?” he will ask himself.
His mobile home becomes an alchemical vessel. He is the one to be transformed. Silence, nature and the animals around him provide the change to come. More and more he is confronted with an inner world that claims his values.
Raised as a Catholic he is confronted with religion. But looking deep inside himself there is no help in only believing in some ideas of a Creator God. Thoughts and feelings take over and the visible world becomes a stream of air like the airstream around his car and similar to a mirage that dissolves the moment you try and grasp it.
He follows into the footsteps of the mystics. The deepest truth of human existence cannot be penetrated by the mind. Everybody has the capacity to experience it. But it requires courage and a willingsness to leave behind the well-known – for some time, at least.
The mystery of BEING is open in front of us but it does not reveal itself so easily. Is it grace or fate? There is a longing for God. Where is he, she or it? It’s a longing for reconnection – for being ONE beyond any religious beliefs. Here there is HOME. Here there is the core of all of us.
